Platteville Sunflower Oil Co.'s cooking oil is filled with great properties that give it a distinct advantage over other oils!
Sunflower oil has a healthy fat profile composed of mostly monounsaturated fats and low in polyunsaturated and saturated fats. Unlike most cooking oils, our oil is cold pressed and is not refined with harmful chemicals. This helps assure that the most nutrients possible are retained in the oil. |
Over 50 students and eleven local businesses helped start the Platteville Sunflower Project in 2013. Together, we grew sunflowers, harvested seeds, and pressed oil right here in Platteville. Sunflower oil is a healthy alternative to olive oil, and by being locally grown it has less of a carbon footprint. As a bonus, the seed husk byproduct makes a great cattle feed.
Our cold pressed oil, with a slightly nutty flavor, is grown with certified organic sunflower seeds here in Wisconsin's Driftless Region and bottled on campus by UW-Platteville students. All profits from the sales of our oil help to fund sustainability and renewable energy related education and community engagement throughout southwestern Wisconsin. |
Sunflower oil is a fantastic sources of vitamin E, which has a variety of benefits, from being a powerful antioxidant to promoting cholesterol neutralizing heart health. Studies have uncovered the vital role that vitamin E plays in muscle repair and cell health. Our oil has plenty of vitamin E to keep your body healthy!
